Good news for young people wanting to get into the skilled trades field.
From September 2021 to March 2022, Support Youth Ontario will run “Tools in the Trades Boot Camps,” targeting three groups of participants:
- Grade 12 students who have an interest in the skilled trades
- People who lost their job during COVID-19
- People looking to start a new career in the health and safety industry, with a special focus on Indigenous youth, racialized groups, women and newcomers.
For those of you that will be attending, you will receive an apprentice starting tool kit valued at $250 and be given the opportunity to meet with prospective employers in the industrial, construction, and motive power service sectors.
The goal is to support economic development, break any stigma of working in the skilled trades are, simplify the apprenticeship system, and encourage businesses to hire more apprentices, these boot camps are geared towards a stronger future of the skilled trades and create job-ready apprentices to replace numerous retiring journeypersons.
