Cutting, Grinding or Drilling Brick can be harmful to your health, but you and/or your employees can be protected.

What makes brick so harmful? It’s the Silica. Silica is a basic material for the making of brinks.

Silica is one of the most common hazards on a worksite. Silica dust can cause something called silicosis, a serious and irreversible lung disease. It can also cause lung cancer. Cutting, breaking, crushing, drilling, or grinding,  releases this dust. As employees breathe in the dust the silica settles in their lungs.

There are ways to reduce Silica on the job, one of those ways is wearing protective gear.

When the protective gear is worn, there must always be at least one other control in place as well. Some questions  for you to consider:

  • Do your employees have the proper respirators, eyewear, and protective clothing?
  • Has the personal protective equipment ever been tested to make sure it is working properly?
