2. Canadian-Made Respirator Recognition Workplace regulations have officially expanded beyond standard US NIOSH-only approvals. Ontario now recognizes Canadian-made, CSA-compliant respirators and particulate filters, helping you diversify your safety supply chain.
3. The Shift to Type 2 Safety Helmets The Canadian Construction Safety Council (CCSC) has mandated Type 2 safety helmets with integrated 4-point chin straps across all member sites to curb traumatic brain injuries. If your projects involve lateral or side-impact hazards, prepare now: the provincial regulatory mandate takes full effect on July 1, 2027.
4. Strict Standalone Elevating Work Platform (EWP) Rules A new standalone regulation (O. Reg. 117/26) takes effect on January 1, 2027, for scissor lifts, boom lifts, and aerial devices. It introduces a rigorous 17-topic training curriculum and legally requires employers to physically evaluate and document an operator’s competency before they use the equipment.
5. Federal Heat & Cold Stress Laws New thermal stress regulations are now active federally under COHSR Part X. Concurrently, Ontario provincial bills (Bill 36 and Bill 130) are moving closer to making structured heat stress plans mandatory for all workplaces.
