Ergonomic Heavy Lifting Tips

Lifting anything heavy is a major cause of people experiencing long-term back problems and having to take time off of work.
Did you know that there is a 10:1 ratio for every lift performed?
For example, if an object is 10 pounds, it takes your back 100 pounds of backpressure to pick up that object.

Before you lift, we have some tips to remember;

  • Wear supportive shoes;
  • Use lift assists when available such as hand dollies, carts, lift tables, forklifts;
  • Always use your body weight and not your feet when pushing;
  • Always keep objects between hip and shoulder height when possible;
  • Keep all loads close to the front of the body;
  • Keep the back aligned while lifting;
  • Maintain your center of balance;
  • Let your legs do the actual lifting;

The way we use our bodies for lifting, sitting or just about anything can easily affect our overall physical limitations over time. This is why we have an Ergonomics set of services to help people work smarter and safer.
