WSIB has finalized the Administrative Practice Documents (APDS) . January 1st, 2013 was the effective date of a new rule for mandatory coverage in the construction industry.
What is the policy?
Most businesses in Ontario that employ workers are covered by the WSIB. Under new legislation, independent operators, sole proprietors, some partners in a partnership and some executive officers who work in construction will also be required to have WSIB coverage starting in 2013

Who needs to register?

Under new legislation, independent operators, sole proprietors, some partners in a partnership and some executive officers in a corporation carrying on a business in construction are also required to have WSIB coverage starting January 1, 2013.

Employers who hire a construction contractor without a clearance certificate could be liable for the contractor’s unpaid premiums and prosecuted. Fines will range up to $25,000 for individuals and $100,000 for Corporations.
